The 2009-10 State Budget continues to invest in health and human service reforms and remains focused on essential day-to-day service delivery and service improvements for the benefit of patients and clients.
Key elements of the Department of Health and Human Services 2009-10 Budget include:
- $130 million for new affordable housing as part of a four-year drive to deliver up to 2000 new and refurbished homes across Tasmania
- a $79 million health capital works program under Tasmania’s Health Plan, including upgrades at the Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital and North West Regional Hospital
- $20 million for ongoing implementation of health and human services reforms under Future Health and Future Communities
- $7 million to help the disability sector fund a badly-needed pay rise for 1500 disability support workers
- an extra $8.25 million to help ensure the sustainability and expansion of ambulance and health transport services without imposing a user levy
- $2 million to continue the rollout of 100 new ambulances, and $750,000 to finish work on three new ambulance stations and residences
- $1.4 million for accommodation for people with a disability.
