Emergency Dental Care Scheme

 Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST) operates the Emergency Dental Care Scheme to provide eligible Tasmanians with access to timely and effective emergency and urgent dental treatment through collaboration between private and public sector dental services.

The Scheme works through a system that begins when clients contact OHST with an emergency or urgent dental problem. OHST triages clients and, based on the assessed clinical need, may offer clients vouchers to contact a private dentist registered in the Scheme. The dentist provides treatment for the client’s emergency or urgent dental problem and OHST pays the dentist on a fee for service basis at the rates listed in the Schedule of Treatments and Fees. The dentist does not have to collect payment from clients as there are no costs to clients.
