Medical Radiation Science Professional Registration Board of Tasmania

The Medical Radiation Science Professional Registration Board of Tasmania was established under section 3 of the Radiographers Registration Act 1971.

The Board consists of:

3 Practitioners – 1 Registered Radiation Therapist

1 Registered Diagnostic Radiographer

1 Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist

2 Consumer Representatives who are not practitioners or Registered Medical Practitioners and are nominated by the Minister to represent the interests of consumers of the services provided by medical radiation practitioners.

Functions of the Board

  • To administer the scheme of registration as set out in Medical Radiation Science Professionals Registration Act 2000.
  • To investigate complaints and undertake disciplinary action against registered practitioners
  • To prosecute offences against this Act
  • To monitor the standard and provision of medical radiation science services in this state.
  • To monitor standards of education and training in medical radiation science
  • To advise the Minister on matters relating to this Act
  • Such other functions as are imposed on the Board by this or any other Act or as may be prescribed

Objectives of the Board

The Board must perform its functions and exercise its powers so as to:

  • Ensure that the services medical radiation science professionals provide to the public are of the highest possible standard
  • Ensure that medical radiation science professionals practice according to the highest professional standard
  • Guard against unsafe, incompetent and unethical practices on the part of medical radiation science professionals.
