Quality and Safety Standards Framework

As outlined in the ‘Office for the Community Sector Strategic Plan 2008-2010’, the goal for Quality and Safety is to ensure that all services provided by community sector organisations under DHHS funding Agreements are consumer focused, of high quality and safe.

The Agency Sector Forum (ASF) is the peak consultative forum between the DHHS and community sector. Under the auspices of the ASF, the ‘ASF Quality and Safety Reference Group’ was established. Following the development of a draft Quality and Safety Standards Framework and consultation with the ASF Q&S Reference Group, the OCS circulated a paper entitled “A Quality and Safety Standards Framework for Tasmania’s Community Sector – a proposed way forward” to community sector organisations. Community sector organisations and DHHS Directors (or their representatives) were consulted and were given the opportunity to provide feedback throughout October and November 2008. A PDF version of the Framework and summary of feedback are available under Resources or on www.communityexpress.dhhs.tas.gov.au.

The Quality and Safety Unit is currently drafting the final Standards Framework document and utilising the feedback from the community sector to amend some aspects of the Standards Framework and clarify some points and issues. An implementation plan is also underway and will be made available in due course.

Any questions regarding the proposed Quality and Safety Standards Framework can be directed to:

The final documentation relating to the Quality and Safety Standards Framework for Tasmania’s Community Agency Funded Community Sector 2009-2012 that has been the subject of consultation over the past months is now available on community express. The documentation is:

The Office for the Community Sector extends appreciation to all community sector organisations and Agency staff who have provided feedback and assistance in the finalisation of the documentation.

A printed copy of the documentation will be forwarded to all funded organisations and Agency Units when printing is completed.

A calendar regarding education sessions that will be offered to community sector organisations and Agency Units will be placed on community express in the next few days. The purpose of the sessions is to provide detail of the Framework’s requirements and raise any final questions. All community sector organisations will have already received an email regarding the sessions and are encouraged to return their registration for their selected education session location and date.
