An ageing population, high levels of chronic disease, and evidence that a considerable proportion of the population has unrecognised and untreated renal disease, is driving the need for a strategic statewide approach for renal services.
The George Institute for International Health (http://www.thegeorgeinstitute.org
) was engaged to develop the State Plan for Renal Services in early 2009 and the final Plan was endorsed by the Minister for Health, on 11 January 2010.
The renal plan was developed in cooperation with an extensive network clinicians, community sector organisations, consumers and their families from across Tasmania. DHHS will continue this collaborative approach as we move to implement the strategies of the Plan.
