The Radiation Protection Act 2005 and Radiation Protection Regulations 2006 have been prepared to enhance Tasmania's legislation to ensure that it is better aligned with national and international regulatory requirements and practices. The Act and Regulations came into force on 1 June 2006 and replaced the Radiation Control Act 1977 and the Radiation Control Regulations 1994.
The new legislation:
- better reflects national and international standards for the use of radiation and radiation safety; and
- provides greater particularity and clarity for those people dealing with radiation especially in relation to their responsibilities and obligations.
