Information Services
Information services exists to support the business activity of the department through the provision of a range of Information Services. The branch was formed in June 2006 bringing together a number of different groups. It’s role is to help the agency achieve it’s objectives by providing quality Information services which enable business units to function effectively and efficiently.
Specifically Information Services provides services through the following units;
- ICT Infrastructure
- Client Services
- Information Strategy
- Applications Support
- Project Portfolio
- Information Resources
- Telehealth network
Special Programs
- Clinical and Administrative Systems for Ehealth (CASE)
- Community Client Health Profile (CCHP)
ICT Infrastructure
The role of the ICT Infrastructure section is to provide quality ICT Infrastructure for all areas of the department. This includes providing support in the areas of:
- Desktop and Laptop equipment
- Server Hardware and Software
- Local Area Network
- Wide Area Network
- IT Security
Client Services
The role of the Client Services section is to provide a range of services which allow staff to effectively use the ICT resources that DHHS provides. The service includes:
- Management of the IT Service Centre.
- Liaising and consultation with clients via a Client Relations Management process.
- Management of Information Services Problem Management Co-ordination and Change Management process.
- Service Level Agreements
- The co-ordination and management of the Partner Review program.
Information Strategy
The role of the Information Strategy Section is to develop strategy which helps the department move forward with respect to information resources. Activities being undertaken include the the development of an Information Strategic plan, an Investment portfolio and submission for special funding of ICT in health.
Application Support
The Application Support section provides support in two areas:
- systems administration for enterprise systems, and application maintenance and support for existing systems; and
- the development of new applications where appropriate
Application Support also works with system implementation projects to ensure that effective support arrangements are in place for new applications from the time of go-live.
Projects Portfolio
Projects Portfolio is a newly established section within Information Services. Its role is to –
- undertake the project management of programs and projects that include a significant IM/ICT component in collaboration with business units.
- provide specialist IM/ICT resources and support for business driven IM/ICT related projects.
For 2006/07, the section is undertaking the Community Client Health Profile (CCHP) Program and a number of client management application related projects. These latter projects include–
- Coordinating the agency’s systems preparedness for implementing HACC NMDS version 2 by 1 January 2007; and managing the implementation of a HACC Data Repository.
- Oral Health Services’ Information Management Enhancement Project.
- Implementation of interim client management information systems for the Community Options Program, Palliative Care Services and Mental Health Triage services.
- Project support to information management planning studies in Mental Health Services, Correctional Health services, and Alcohol & Drug Services.
CASE
The CASE Program is focused on those patient information systems which are used predominantly within hospitals. The Program will deliver successive projects which either upgrade or replace current systems, or implement new functionality.
Information Resources
The Information Resources section develops, manages and promotes authoritative information resources and services to support the DHHS business and strategic priorities.
The section facilitates the development and use of knowledge based skills and resources for the Department’s diverse professional groups, with the aim of contributing to improved health and human services outcomes.
Services are delivered electronically and through a network of libraries and records centres based in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie. Areas of expertise in which services and projects are undertaken include:
- information research;
- management and support of corporate information services;
- management and development of information resources;
- current awareness services;
- consultancy, advice and training on library and corporate information issues; and
- reception and mail services.
