Freedom of Information

The Tasmanian Freedom of Information Act 1991 commenced on 1 January 1993. It gives people the right to be provided with information held by government agencies, unless the information is exempt from release.

In particular, you have a right to access personal information that an agency may have on you and/or your affairs. You can request that records held by an agency be amended if the information about you is incorrect, incomplete, out of date or misleading.

If you make an application for information and the agency makes a decision not to release the information to you, there is a right to have the decision reviewed by the Head of Agency. If you are still dissatisfied there is a right of review by the Ombudsman . Please refer to information that is exempt from being released, before making your application.
