Office of the SecretaryThe Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for delivering integrated services that maintain and improve the health and wellbeing of individual Tasmanians and the Tasmanian community as a whole. Services provided by the Department include family, child and youth services, oral (dental) health services, alcohol and drug services, public and environmental health services for diverse population groups, cancer screening and control, aged, rural and community health services, mental health services, services for people with a disability, palliative care, special needs accommodation, adoptions and information, and non-admitted patients, emergency and non-emergency patient transport, clinical research, clinical teaching, public and private rental assistance, community sector housing and home ownership assistance. These services are provided Tasmania wide.
The primary responsibility of the Office of the Secretary is to provide departmental leadership and strategic direction to ensure the effective provision of the above services. The Office of the Secretary provides whole-of-agency administration, guidance on corporate culture and leadership in major issues to be managed by the Department and the Minister.
