North West Regional Hospital – Theatre and Day Surgery Redevelopment

Construction is underway to add a fourth operating theatre, expand the day and recovery wards and create two new dental surgery rooms.

The additional operating theatre will increase elective surgery by up to 15 per cent and will allow North West Regional Hospital to perform more emergency surgery within working hours.

The day surgery ward will expand from eight to12 chairs. Patient privacy will also increase through the creation of separate cubicles for consultation.

The recovery ward will increase from six to 10 beds.

The construction of a new dental surgery unit will allow patients to access specialised dental services at North West Regional Hospital for the first time.

Work is on target to be completed by mid-July 2010.

Mersey Community Hospital – High Dependency Unit Redevelopment

Mersey Community Hospital’s High Dependency Unit (HDU) is currently being relocated and upgraded.

The approximately $1 million project will provide a more spacious and contemporary facility for high dependency patients, while creating additional space for an expansion to Mersey’s existing emergency department.

Features of the new HDU unit will include:

• increased patient privacy;

• improved visibility for nursing staff to enhance patient monitoring; and

• an isolation room for better management of infectious cases.

The new location remains closely connected to the Emergency Department via a lift. .

Construction is on target to be completed by August 2010.
