Cancer Screening and Control Banner

Cancer Screening & Control Services (CS&CS) comprises four work units: BreastScreen Tasmania (BST), the Cervical Cancer Prevention Program (CCPP) and Tasmanian Cervical Screening Register (TCSR), the Policy and Education Unit (P&EU) and the monitoring and oversight of the Tasmanian component of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP).

BreastScreen provides free screening mammograms for the women of Tasmania through clinics in Hobart, Launceston and the Mobile Unit (21 locations state-wide). Current screening throughput is approximately 26,000 women per annum.

The Tasmanian Cervical Screening Register sends reminder letters to women if their Pap smears are overdue, and monitors follow-up to ensure women with abnormal smears receive appropriate treatment and management.

The CS&CS Policy and Education Unit provides policy advice on cancer screening and control issues, monitors national and international trends in cancer control policy, screening and early detection of cancer; and provides community education and advice on prevention, screening and early detection.

The Tasmanian component of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) is monitored by CS&CS. The Business Unit works collaboratively with the Screening Section of the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) to implement the current phase of the NBCSP.
