Our general training acute care program is uniquely aimed at those seeking specialised courses in rural general practice, anaesthetics and emergency medicine. We also partner with the University of Tasmania for a Rural and Remote Placement Program which is conducted on a statewide basis. Placements are located at Scottsdale, Georgetown and Clarence.
We have a major focus on education and training. You will receive formal training as well as on the job training from Consultants and registrars during rounds and in the course of your day to day work. Most departments have formal grand rounds. Your consultant will be approachable and available to talk with you.
We are flexible. There is the capacity to plan your career sooner or alternatively to focus on your areas of interest or keep your options open. Our focus is on consolidating your skills, knowledge and experience and career choice exploration. We provide you with exposure to various disciplines allowing you to decide a career pathway. Individual career pathways can be structured if required, and we provide solid preparation for Registrar training streams including support for exams.
Our teams are smaller and more relaxed, and structures flatter and less hierarchical. Teams really know each other and work well together. The volume and casemix of work is excellent, and access to facilities and technology is good, so you can obtain solid and broad experience with us. You can get more operating time and you wonít just be standing up the back. MRIís, PET scanners, high tech imaging, and a Paediatric ICU are all accessible.
Opportunities for undergraduate teaching may be available.
A professional training allowance of $1500 pa is available to reimburse training or study costs such us text books, courses, exam preparation, professional society fees. Study leave of 10 days a year may be approved
