More information or contact us
The Northern Area Health Service is a vibrant and exciting place to work within a range of clinical settings. Its main teaching centre, the Launceston General Hospital is currently undergoing a $104.9 million makeover further enhancing the learning and working environment.
As part of the development, a unique Acute Medical Unit is being established and once completed the LGH will lead the country in a new model of care and patient flow. As well, the hospital’s busy emergency department (more than 30,000 annual presentations), is being expanded to double the floor space and treatment bays. There are many reasons driving the redevelopment but at the heart of our service are our patients and our ultimate aim in assessing and changing how we care for patients is to improve their health and wellbeing outcomes.
The hospital has a proud 147 year history of innovation and national firsts. All major specialties, apart from neuro surgery and cardiac surgery, are represented at the 300 bed facility, which is the major hospital for the north of Tasmania. The LGH serves an immediate population of 150,000 but catches close to a quarter of a million people for more complex problems. It is supported by eight rural and regional sites including a multi purpose facility on Flinders Island. The NAHS has strong links with the University of Tasmania and has a distinguished record both nationally and internationally in patient care, teaching, nursing and research. A major medical research facility, the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust, is based at the LGH.
The NAHS offers employment opportunities across a broad range of areas including medical, nursing, allied health, engineering/technical support, management/administration and support services. Positions are available in a wide range of occupations, offering employees a challenging and rewarding career. The hospital strives to provide staff with job security, has state-of-the art facilities and exciting employment growth opportunities.
