Tasmanian Government Response to the Commissioner for Children and Young People’s Report into Family Violence and Children and Young People in Tasmania

The Commissioner for Children and Young People (the Commissioner) has an ongoing role and commitment to addressing family violence in Tasmania.

On 20 September 2016, the Commissioner and the Premier jointly launched the Commissioner’s Report into Family Violence and Children and Young People in Tasmania: Children and Young People’s Unique Experiences of Family Violence (the Commissioner’s Report). The Commissioner’s Report is a welcome addition to the existing evidence base and provides a foundation for future work by the Tasmanian Government to address family violence and its impact on children and young people.

The Commissioner’s Report acknowledges the important work taking place through Safe Homes, Safe Families: Tasmania’s Family Violence Action Plan 2015–2020 (Safe Homes, Safe Families). Safe Homes, Safe Families is the Tasmanian Government’s coordinated strategic response to address family violence and represents the start of a long term commitment to the Tasmanian community.

The Tasmanian Government acknowledges the Commissioner’s ongoing role and commitment to addressing family violence in Tasmania. The Tasmanian Government is broadly supportive of the Report’s findings.
