Nominations for 2009 Child Protection Awards Program are now open
The Child Protection Awards Program is an opportunity to acknowledge the many people whose contributions assist in response to child abuse and neglect in our communities.
The Child Protection Awards Program recognises outstanding service provision and leadership in improving the lives of vulnerable children, young people and their families in Tasmania.
The Awards Program categories are:-
1. Professional services community sector – This category is for those professionals who have developed and/or delivered a therapeutic or support program to ex or current children of DCYFS’ Child Protection Services. This category includes innovative service delivery to address the impacts of child abuse and neglect on children.
2. Professional services government sector – This category is for government staff, including those who work for DCYFS in direct service delivery, policy or program development. The nominee’s role must significantly contribute to the prevention or intervention in child abuse and neglect.
3. Volunteering – This category includes individuals or groups who work on a voluntary basis to enhance the well being of children and families. This category can also include carers such as grandparents or extended family members, foster carers or those who work in a voluntary capacity in the community.
4. Strengthening communities, regional programs –This category will recognise an individual, program or service that is providing innovative and creative services to children and families. It is envisaged that the programs will include new ways of working and connecting with children and families at risk.
5. Education and awareness – This category includes any person or group in the government or community sector that is delivering innovative prevention programs to raise awareness about child protection. This category includes activities such as:
- the provision of training and awareness programs; and
- development of resources such as promotional material or creative programs in the area of art and drama.
A Statewide Award winner will also be selected from the winners of the regional Awards.
Each regional Award will consist of a $500 voucher for each of the 5 categories and the State Award will consist of a $1,000 voucher. All state and regional winners will also receive a framed certificate.
