Industry and Government join forces to combat gambling problems
Responsible Gambling Awareness Week is a government and industry partnership program which aims to raise awareness of the potential harms and to encourage safer behaviour among gamblers.
This year’s theme, ‘Know where to run when the bets are no longer fun’, sends a message to patrons and venue staff that free and confidential support is available if they or someone close to them is experiencing problems.
The week will be launched Monday 18 May at 9.30am by Minister for Human Services Lin Thorp MLC at a presentation featuring former AFL footballer David ‘the Ox’ Schwarz. David Schwarz is the ALH’s Responsible Gambling Ambassador and presents employee education and customer awareness about the importance of “being honest with yourself about your gambling” around the country.
Education for venue staff is continued through workshops in Hobart and Launceston designed to reinforce the Responsible Conduct of Gaming (RCG) code and to provide staff with a chance to meet local counsellors. For more information or to RSVP please phone 6233 2269 or email gambling@dhhs.tas.gov.au
Promotional material for venues in the form of posters and table cards will be displayed in venues around the state.
