Complex and Exceptional Needs Service (CEN)

Disability Services provides support to the Agency's Complex and Exceptional Needs Service (CEN), including the Agency Collaboration Strategy.

CEN 's mission is provide leadership in the implementation of best practice collaborative approaches to ensure all services work together, so that people with complex and exceptional needs have an optimum quality of life and are valued members of the community.

Some people who are considered to have complex needs exhibit challenging behaviours which place themselves, the staff and the community at risk. Others may find it extremely difficult to find long term, stable and appropriate accommodation. In these cases two or more program areas of DHHS would generally be required to collaborate and co-operate in an effort to resolve problems.

People with exceptional needs are considered to be those for whom no service model or service solution exists, which often means that the provision of care is not sustainable within the budget constraints of DHHS Groups. This may include people with catastrophic non compensable injuries who are re-establishing their life in the community after a long period in hospital.

The CEN Service provides a professional and specialist support service for DHHS, with a particular focus on resolving cases that are not managed satisfactorily within the current service system. CEN also has the leadership role for the Agency Collaboration Strategy, and will shortly - through CEN's Specialist Clinical Team - begin to provide a point of entry into the new Disability Services Intensive Support Service.
