Adoption and Information

Adoption is an option that is used to provide care for children and young people who are unable to live with their birth families. It is a legal process that is long term and permanent. All legal rights and responsibilities of parents are transferred from the birth parents to the adoptive parents.

The Adoption and Information Service co-ordinates and manages all adoptions in Tasmania, including arrangements for Tasmanian born and overseas children, step parent and relative adoptions.
