Every year the flu kills 1500 Australians
The flu is different to having a cold. With the flu, it's your whole body that's affected, whereas a cold mostly affects your head and throat. Key symptoms of flu are fever, cough and sudden, severe fatigue. Flu is very contagious and can be spread even before symptoms appear. If you have flu, stay home and stand back from other people. You can catch flu just by touching a surface that has been coughed over, and then touching your mouth, eyes or nose. Protect yourself by washing your hands frequently. Protect others by covering your cough or sneeze with tissues or the crook of your elbow if you don't have a tissue.
