Pre-Admission Clinic

Tasmanian Health Service - North West Region

The purpose of Pre-Admission Clinic is to prepare you 1-2 weeks before your operation by:

  • Conducting examinations and tests to assess your fitness for the anesthetic and the operation thus preventing unnecessary postponements and / or cancellation of your operation. The doctor will examine you and commence any changes in treatment which may be necessary before your examination;
  • Providing information and allowing you to ask questions about your operation and stay in hospital. This will help you to make the necessary arrangements before your operation;
  • Meeting other health professionals who may be involved in your care, eg. physiotherapist, occupational therapist, diabetes / respiratory educators etc; and
  • Assessing your requirements for discharge from hospital and arranging for extra support services and / or equipment if required.
