What is a stoma?
  • A stoma is a surgically created opening to allow drainage of body waste products - urine and faeces.

A Stomal Therapy Nurse is a registered nurse who has undertaken postgraduate training relating to all aspects of surgery and disease which results in the formation of a stoma.

The Stomal Therapy Nurse at North West Regional Hospital offers ongoing education and support both physically and emotionally to patients and their families.
