As a teaching hospital of the University of Tasmania, we are active participants in teaching and training Tasmania's future health professionals. Our medical, nursing and allied health staff participate in research which is facilitated through this link and also through the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust.

The Launceston General Hospital is a 300 bed public hospital providing acute care facilities for residents of Launceston and the Northern Region of Tasmania, Australia.
Every year the LGH treats over 24,000 inpatients and over 225,000 outpatients.
LGH is one of three hospitals (with the Royal Hobart Hospital and the North West Regional Hospital) in the Acute Health Services Group of the Department of Health and Human Services, Tasmania.
History of the Launceston General Hospital

The first Colonial Hospital was established c1820.
In 1982 the current LGH was commissioned.
In 1995 the Queen Victoria Women's Services were co-located on the hospital site.
