The Tasmanian Government is committed to providing quality, sustainable social housing for Tasmanians on low incomes. To improve housing outcomes for Tasmanians who need housing assistance, the social housing system must be made more efficient and effective.
The Housing Innovations Unit (HIU) is responsible for driving Housing Tasmania’s social and affordable housing reform agenda.
There are four major components to Housing Tasmania’s social and affordable reform agenda:
- Major capital development projects
- Service Coordination and Improvement Project
- National Rental Affordability Scheme
- Better Housing Futures, the partial transfer of tenancy and property management to the community housing sector
These reforms have been made possible through a substantial State and Australian Government investment into housing, including the Australian Government’s Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan, the Tasmanian Government’s Housing Fund and the National Affordable Housing Agreement and associated National Partnership Agreements.
