Foster carers still needed for at-risk children

Tasmanians are being asked to open their hearts to the state’s most vulnerable children in the latest phase of a campaign to recruit more foster carers.

Tasmania still needs more foster carers for children and young people who can not stay with their families, especially pre-teen and adolescent children.

If you have room in your home and your heart for a vulnerable child, then please act to become a foster carer today.

The new campaign retains the proven Real Carers Really Needed message but advertising material now emphasises the need for carers of children aged from nine to14 years and so features an adolescent boy with a skateboard.

Advertisements will appear in the three metropolitan newspapers on January 21 and posters will be placed across the state during February. In addition, Facebook advertising will run in February and March.

Department of Health and Human Services staff will also promote the Real Carers Really Needed message at community events around the state.

We are also urging state public servants to consider becoming foster carers. We highly value the skills and experience of our staff, and expect many of them will want to learn more about foster caring.

The campaign will run until 31 March 2012.
