Pharmacy Regulation: on going regulation of pharmacy ownership and registration of pharmacy business premises in Tasmania
From 1 July 2010 there will be a single National Scheme for the registration and accreditation for the health professions. Under the new National Scheme the functions of the existing Pharmacy Board of Tasmania will transfer to the Pharmacy Board of Australia. The Pharmacy Board of Australia will be responsible for both the registration and accreditation requirements. Under the National Scheme the Pharmacy Board of Australia will not have responsibility for the ownership and registration of pharmacy business premises provisions, contained in the Tasmanian Pharmacists Registration Act 2001. Tasmania needs to determine alternative administrative arrangements for continuing these functions post 1 July 2010.
The Department of Health and Human Services in collaboration with the Pharmacy Board of Tasmania have developed a proposal on how these functions can be administered and regulated in Tasmania after 1 July 2010. We are seeking feedback on the proposed establishment of a new Tasmanian Pharmacy Authority to perform these legislative functions.
You are invited to provide feedback and comments on the “Consultation Paper” by close of business on Friday 16 October 2009 .
