The Chief Nurse and Allied Health Unit major areas of responsibility are to;
- Provide and coordinate high level strategic advice in Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health to the Minister, Secretary, Deputy Secretaries and other stakeholders.
- Provide leadership and input into key strategic and policy issues such as;
- Professional Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health areas
- Safety and Quality
- Education, training and research
- Workforce planning and development.
- Provide an interface with the tertiary and vocational education sectors for the education and training of nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals.
- Represent the Department on national groups and bodies relevant to nursing, midwifery and allied health.
The functions of Chief Nurse and Allied are in the process of being developed.
