The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) conducted forums in September 2005 to enable nurses and other health workers to gain a better understanding of the role of the Nurse Practitioner and the relationship to other health professional roles.
Mary Chiarella from the University of Technology , Sydney , Elaine Ford Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Tarra Shaw from Westmead Hospital , Sydney provided an overview of their roles and how the role in practice has developed and progressed. Kathryn Terry, Nursing Board of Tasmania provided the Tasmanian perspective in relation to the development of the role and changes to nursing legislation and the Poisons Act.
