Professor Ashby has recently been appointed as Clinical Director and Chair of the Clinical Network for Palliative Care at DHHS. He also chairs the Clinical Ethics Committee at the Royal Hobart Hospital, and leads the Respecting Patient Choices program.
He is a past president of the Australia and New Zealand Society for Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM) and immediate past Chairman of the Chapter of Palliative Medicine at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He was awarded the 2006 Bethlehem Griffiths Research Foundation medal for research in palliative care.
