Cardiology and Neurology - Launceston General Hospital

The Cardiology and Neurology department is divided into two areas:

Cardiology

Provides non-invasive services to both inpatients and outpatients from the North of Tasmania.

Non-invasive procedures include:

  • Transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiograms;
  • Holter monitors;
  • Event monitors;
  • Stress testing;
  • Tilt table testing; and
  • Pacemaker follow-up clinics.

Invasive procedures include:

  • Diagnostic angiography;
  • Angioplasty; and
  • Pacemaker implants.

Cardiologists also provide outpatients consultation clinics in the Specialist Clinic located on Level 3 of the LGH every week.

Neurology

The Neurology section provides:

  • Diagnostic electroephalography;
  • Nerve conduction studies; and
  • Electromyography and Botulinus Toxin injection therapy.

A Neurologist also provides a consultation service in the Specialist Clinic located on Level 3 of the LGH once a week.

All tests are covered by Medicare and are Bulk Billed.

Opening Hours: 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday (closed weekends and public holidays).

An On-call service is available for the pacemaker technician and the Angiography site only.
