A limited amount of contingency or 'Ad Hoc' funding is available for relative carers to assist in meeting specific needs of a child in their care, which may include medical, dental, education, disability costs, and activities promoting social, emotional and behavioural development.
Contingency funding can also be accessed for respite opportunities, or to provide support to relative carers to ensure the continuing placement of the children in their care. In these cases, the funding may be accessed by individuals or groups to provide programs on the behalf of, and to benefit, relative carers.
Each application is assessed with regard to the best interests of the child and prevention of material neglect and harm. This includes expenditure required to support the child's placement, including extracurricular activities.
