The Renal Service is available within the Launceston General Hospital and the
North West Satellite Renal Unit.
The Renal Units provide a service to people from North and North West
Tasmania and people from other units who are holidaying in Tasmania. People who
attend the units are those with:
- Chronic renal failure (not on dialysis);
- With kidney disease who may develop kidney failure;
- On peritoneal dialysis;
- On haemodialysis; and
- Who are going to have a kidney transplant or who have had a kidney
transplant;
Services provided include:
- Education days for patients, families and carers about living with kidney
disease and treatment options available to them;
- Haemodialysis treatment; Education and support for people on home
haemodialysis;
- Arranging and supporting outpatient clinics; assistance in arranging tests,
paperwork, education and support for people who are going on to the kidney
waiting list, and people who's relatives may be able to donate them a kidney;
- Education for people on peritoneal dialysis, giving guidance and support as
required and making home visits; education of staff on kidney disease and
treatments;
- Provide follow-up for people after a kidney transplant; and
- Education for the general public as requested.
The staff of the Renal Unit understand that adjusting to life with kidney
disease may be difficult and stressful. Please contact us with any questions
