Occupational Therapy is a health profession that focuses on assisting clients
to regain and maintain independence with daily living and life skills.
Occupational Therapists are trained to assist people to overcome limitations
caused by injury or illness, psychological or emotional difficulties,
developmental delay or the effects of aging. Their goal is to assist each
individual to move from dependence, maximizing personal productivity, well being
and quality of life.
The Service provides assessment and intervention for inpatients, outpatients
and Community clients. It provides equipment to clients through the Northern
Community Equipment Scheme to assist clients with maintaining independence.
Outpatient services include:
- Cardiac Rehabilitation;
- Pulmonary Rehabilitation;
- Spinal Case Management; and
- Individual consultations as referred for a wide variety of diagnostic
groups.
Community Outreach includes:
- Home assessment;
- Home modifications;
- Falls risk assessment;
- Equipment prescription / provision;
- Education;
- Occupational Health and Safety; and
- Services to Community Agencies as required.
Community Outreach and Outpatient services are provided on a referral basis
only. Referrals can be made by the individual, family members, Community
agencies, other Allied Health staff and Medical Practitioners.
