The Speech Pathology department provides outpatient services including:
- Ongoing treatment following Hospital discharge, particularly for rehabilitation following stroke;
- Our rehabilitation service currently extends regular visits to Deloraine, Scottsdale, Fingal Valley and East Coast regions;
- An intervention service for 0-4 year olds is provided by the LGH, covering the whole of Northern Tasmania. This service is primarily concerned with children showing delays or disorders in speech and language development; and
- The scope also covers stuttering and voice problems, and specialist advice to the LGH specialist E.N.T (Ear, Nose & Throat) and Cleft Palate Clinics.
The department also provides services to Nursing Homes. Nursing homes are a major target for meal management assistance. As 40-60% of residents have been shown to experience swallowing difficulties.
The department commits resources to provide aid to Nursing Home staff through in-service training sessions, and the preparation of meal management plans for individual residents.
Services are provided to patients without any out of pocket expense.
