The Diabetes Education Service aims to assist clients make informed lifestyle choices to limit the development and / or impact of implications associated with diabetes whilst maintaining quality of life. They offer social support in establishing support networks and acute health care to assist clients resolve and / or manage presenting problems and optimise best health outcomes.
The accredited Diabetes Education Services at the Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital and the North West Regional Hospital provide a multidisciplinary service.
People with diabetes or pre-diabetes can access:
- diabetes educators
- dieticians
- podiatrists
- social workers/psychologists
The Service teaches clients the use of diabetic equipment and provides in-service sessions and support to community education support groups and a range of diabetes education programs.

Service Eligibility
A referral from your treating doctor is required when seeking an appointment with a Diabetes Medical Specialist or the Podiatrist.
Referral to the Diabetes Centre is not required if you seek education, support or resources from a Diabetes Educator, Dietitian or Social Worker. You will however need an apppointment.
