Polish Welfare Office

The Polish Welfare Office, under the auspices of the Polish Association in Hobart Inc., provides culturally sensitive community based support services to the Polish community in Southern Tasmania. Services are funded through the Home and Community Care Program (Tasmanian Government - Department of Health and Human Services), the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (Australian Government - Department of Health) and client contributions. These services include:

In-home Services

  • Regular home visits providing social support and befriending
  • Assistance with communications (letter writing, telephone calls, filling in forms).

Out-of-home Services

  • Assistance with appointments
  • Assistance with shopping
  • Assistance with financial transactions.

Group social activities

  • Polish Day Centre – ethno-specific social activities twice a month on the first and third Tuesday. These activities usually take place at the Polish Club, 20 New Town Road New Town.
  • Social support at various local venues on a weekly basis (e.g. craft, singing, information sessions).

Transport

  • Individual or group transport using Polish Welfare Office service vehicles, subject to staff availability.

Meals

  • A traditional Polish meal is served at the Polish Day Centre.
  • Occasionally, meals are served at other group activities.
