After an accident people don't hesitate to seek professional help for physical injuries. Seeking professional help for emotional pain is equally sensible.

If you or someone close to you has been involved in an accident you may have reactions that are very difficult to cope with. Even a 'minor' accident can be very unsettling.

Some common experiences are:

  • Feelings of Emptiness, Anger, Guilt, Fear, Confusion, Disbelief
  • Panic Attacks
  • Lack of Energy
  • Irritability
  • Mood Swings
  • Feelings of Tightness in the Chest
  • Tightness in the Throat
  • Wanting to Cry all the Time
  • Can't Concentrate
  • Can't be Bothered
  • Dreams
  • Changes in Sleeping Patterns
  • Flashbacks
  • Just not Feeling 'Yourself'

Emotional, physical and behavioural reactions to an accident experience can happen straight away or some time later. They can be mild or severe , short term or long lasting. They can affect every aspect of your life. Talking to people who understand what is happening can help you get your balance back.

Pins and plates hold bones together while they heal, physiotherapists help things to function more normally again. The Road Trauma Support Team does those things for the emotional injuries offering a confidential counselling and support service to the victims, relatives, friends and witnesses of road accidents, including those who may have caused an accident.
