About Housing

Generally you should check with your local council and services (e.g Aurora, Telstra etc) before commencing any work.

There are a number of websites that can provide you with information and advice about maintaining or improving your home:

Find a Tradesperson

Do It Yourself (DIY)

For a range of 'how to' guides visit your local hardware store.

Archicentre - Offers a large number of fact sheets on common home renovation and architectural issues.

Housing Tasmania Tenants.

As stated in your Lease you are not permitted to make any improvements or alterations to your home. This includes but is not limited to: painting, wallpapering, carpeting or structural changes. Under exceptional circumstances, Housing Tasmania may consider giving approval for some improvements. Talk to your Service Centre to seek further advice.

If you do not ask permission you will be asked to return your home to its original condition. You will be billed for repairs if alterations need to be removed or if you damage the property.

If you are a Housing Tasmania tenant the maintenance for Housing Tasmania's homes is a shared responsibility between tenants and Housing Tasmania. These responsibilities are outlined in your Lease Agreement. For further information on housing maintenance visit Housing Tasmania Maintenance.
