Medical Intern Recruitment Processes - More Information

IELTS

International students who did not do their secondary schooling in English will need to have an IELTS score of 7 in all 4 areas.

Note: AHPRA advises that - All internationally qualified applicants for registration, or applicants who qualified for registration in Australia but did not complete their secondary education in English, must demonstrate that they have the necessary English language skills for registration purposes. All applicants must be able to demonstrate English language skills at IELTS academic level 7 or the equivalent, and achieve the required minimum score in each component of the IELTS academic module, OET or specified alternatives.

The entry score for the University of Tasmania is currently 6/6.5. If your score on the test was 7 or above and you have remained enrolled in a recognised University in Australia you will not need to repeat the test.

Acceptance of Multiple Internship Offers

Applicants can apply for internship in different States/Territories as long as they meet the relevant eligibility criteria.

Where an offer is received to work at a Tasmanian hospital, applicants will have two (2) working days to make a decision and advise the relevant medical workforce recruitment staff.

Where an offer is received from an interstate hospital, applicants should contact that hospital's medical workforce recruitment staff for advice.

Declining an Offer

Please note that if you decline an offer to work in a Tasmanian hospital you will NOT receive another offer to work in Tasmania and you will be considered to have withdrawn from the selection process.
