Intensive Care Senior Registrar

Intensive Care Senior Registrars (SRs) are pivotal to the effective running of our Intensive Care Unit. They provide high level clinical care, and work with registrars, SRMOs and RMOs with supervision and bedside teaching. They set an important example to junior trainees and are expected to show enthusiasm and leadership.

The Senior Registrar positions carry significant additional responsibility above general registrars, and accordingly, the selection of Senior Registrars involves careful consideration of clinical experience and leadership qualities.

The SR role in our ICU is ideal for advanced trainees nearing completion of their Intensive care training who intend to sit the CICM Fellowship Exam within the next year. We have a well-developed preparation program and a high pass-rate for CICM Fellowship.

The role may also be suitable for selected, senior, non-ICU trainees, who are post-fellowship exam in another specialty and wish to gain further critical care experience in a more senior role.

The ICU SR will be on-call from home during clinical weeks, with Specialist support as needed. There is expectation of involvement in non-clinical portfolios within the unit and attendance and involvement in formal teaching, M&M and QA meetings.

Applicants should include details of their career goals and Fellowship interests in their application cover letter.
