Director - Rural Pathways news:

2018 is now well underway and its been a busy start for Rural Generalists.

In Tasmania, through the National Partnership Agreement, we have secured funding for the Tasmanian Rural Medical Generalist Pathway for a further 3 years! More details about what that means will be available soon.

In February, the National Rural Health Commissioner net with the RACGP and ACRRM to form the Collingrove Agreement. Here an agreed definition of what a rural generalist is was made.

A Rural Generalist (RG) is a medical practitioner who is trained to meet the specific current and future health care needs of Australian rural and remote communities, in a sustainable and cost effective way, by providing both comprehensive general practice and emergency care, and required components of other medical specialist care in hospital and community settings as part of a rural healthcare team.

The Rural Medical Generalist Coordinating Council has agreed to adopt this new definition of a Rural Generalist in Tasmania.

There will be lots of opportunity to talk to Prof Paul Worley, National Rural Health Commissioner at the Sunday session of the Tasmanian Rural Health Conference, where he will be speaking at the opening session.

Thank you all for your support of the upcoming conference. The pre-conference REST workshop has only ONE place left, and student tickets are SOLD OUT! There is a waiting list for student tickets, so please let us know if you are no longer able to make it. I look forward to seeing you all there.

The Conference is being co-convened by the Rural Medical Generalist Coordinating Council and the Rural Doctors Association of Tasmania (RDAT). You can find out more by visiting the Rural Doctors Association of Tasmania online or you can follow them on Twitter @RDA_Tas
