How to be Active with your Family Everyday

The beginning of the school year is a great time to start new routines. With the warmer weather and longer days, it is easier for you and your family to get active. Getting into the habit of being active every day will make it simpler as the year progresses (and the weather gets colder!).

Often life can be busy. Choosing  physical activities that fit into your daily plans is a great way to make sure you are moving more every day. One way to do this is to walk or cycle with your children to school. This can include walking to the bus stop to catch a bus.

Interestingly children (and parents!) who walk, cycle or take the bus for transport usually do more exercise than other people. Even walking part of the way is okay. For example, you might drive from your home part way to school, then walk together the rest of the way. Parking will also be easier! Another option is to start a “walking school bus” with your neighbours. This is where a group of children walk to school together, with an adult supervising.

Teaching your children to be active everyday will help set up these healthy habits for life. Find more ideas and tips about physical activity and family
