Attention all visitors

In order to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) visitors must not enter if:

  • They have been overseas/interstate in the last 14 days.
  • They are unwell or have a fever, cough, a sore throat or gastrointestinal illness.
  • Visitors are limited to one per patient at any one time for a maximum time of 30 minutes unless there are exceptional circumstances.
  • Visiting hours are from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm daily.
  • No children to visit except in exceptional circumstances.

Before entering our hospital, clinics or community centres please use the hand hygiene station provided.

Please note exceptions to these agreed principles will be negotiated at unit management level with consideration on a case by case basis.

Welcome to the Launceston General Hospital (LGH). The hospital provides inpatient and ambulatory services to Launceston and surrounding areas.

As an accredited teaching hospital, the LGH has a close partnership with the University of Tasmania through the Launceston Clinical School and the School of Nursing and Midwifery based in Launceston.

Research and innovation is encouraged and supported throughout the hospital with research sponsored by the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust.

As the largest employer in the region, the LGH has about 2000 employees or approximately 1500 equivalent fulltime staff.

Staff are committed to providing quality services in a culture of respect and trust with high levels of professionalism and a focus on performance and achieving results.
