Social Work

The aim of Social Work in an acute setting is to help people find solutions to problems which can range from everyday to catastrophic issues.

This is accomplished through a unique combination of psychosocial assessment, counselling and direct connection with a network of community based resources.

  • Social Workers work with Inpatients, Outpatients and their families/carers to:
  • deal with crises;
  • Identify problems/issues that may be impinging on health and well-being, and develop goals and strategies to help alleviate them;
  • Cope with illness and other life stressors;
  • Encourage/ enhance communication with other health professionals to enable patients and families to be active partners in their own health care; and
  • Access hospital and community based services.
