Housing Connect - Your new way to connect to housing and support

More about Housing Connect

The Tasmanian Government is transforming services for Tasmanians who need housing and homelessness assistance with a new system called Housing Connect.

The way services are delivered needs to keep pace with the changing needs of Tasmanians.

What does Housing Connect do?

Housing Connect is the one-stop shop for all your housing and support needs. One assessment for everything from emergency accommodation to a long-term home.

Housing Connect can help you with:

  • applying for social housing
  • support and advice with your private rental, including bond and rent arrears
  • finding a bed for the night
  • support and advice on how to stay in your home
  • seeking assistance following family violence
  • information and advice on your housing options

Applying for social housing

Housing Connect is where you now apply for Housing Tasmania, Better Housing Futures and other community housing.

If you need public or community housing you must go to Housing Connect for help. Instead of going to Housing Tasmania, you should go to Housing Connect.

How does Housing Connect work?

Housing Connect connects Tasmanians on low incomes and in crisis, with long-term stable housing and support where it is needed.

There are three key parts to Tasmania's new approach.

Part one

At the front end, Housing Connect is a one-stop shop for clients to access all housing and support needs. It will provide immediate assistance, assessment and intake service for people who need help with housing or who are homeless.

Clients will get one housing and support assessment instead of going to numerous different services to get help.

Part two

Housing Connect also improves how we provide support to people who need it. Ongoing support will be available to people with high needs to prevent a return to housing crisis.

Part three

Housing Connect expands emergency accommodation capacity to help groups in our community that need more help: families; men with children; pregnant women; people with high and complex needs.

Collaborative approach

Tasmania has united its housing and support organisations to work side-by-side on Housing Connect.

Five organisations – Anglicare, Centacare, Colony 47, Hobart City Mission and Salvation Army (Tasmania) – will deliver the collaborative new system for the Tasmania Government.
