Project Activities

There were four action areas in the DHHS Better Access to Palliative Care Action Plan:

  1. Tasmanian Palliative Care Policy Framework - develop and implement a strategy for collaboration and coordination.
  2. Strengthening the networks and linkages between palliative care (primary and specialist).
  3. Enhancing the palliative care system (public, private, primary, secondary, tertiary); and
  4. Enhancing the capacity of the specialist palliative care team.

Better Access to Palliative Care implemented a suite of initiatives to address these action areas including:

Compassionate Communities: A Tasmanian Palliative Care Policy Framework 2016-2020

  • Tasmania's palliative care policy framework, Compassionate Communities: A Tasmanian Palliative Care Policy Framework 2017-2021 has been released
  • The Policy Framework establishes the overarching strategic direction for palliative care policy in Tasmania. It reflects a more contemporary and inclusive approach to palliative care, continues the service and system reforms delivered through BAPC and embeds best practice approaches to palliative care. The Policy Framework recognises the strengths, resources and resilience that already exists in our communities.
