Midwifery Group Practice (MGP)

A small group of two to three midwives support you before, during and after the birth of your baby.

Our Midwives

Our Launceston General Hospital (LGH) MGP is made up of nine experienced and passionate midwives.  We love our work and are committed to supporting women in their birth choices and guiding the whole family through the transition into parenting.

  • Midwifery care for low risk pregnancy
  • Antenatal visits in the community and in the home
  • Whenever possible, a known midwife support throughout labour
  • Early discharge home
  • Up to two weeks follow up in your own home after baby is born
  • Free service

Referral Process

Ask your doctor to refer you to MGP when you confirm your pregnancy.

Providing your pregnancy is uncomplicated, and there is space in MGP, you will be allocated two to three midwives, who will contact you to arrange care.
