Radiation Protection in Tasmania

Radiation Protection in Tasmania

Radiation Protection and Advice

We aim to protect Tasmanians and our environment from the risks associated with exposure to sources of radiation, while recognising and enabling access to its beneficial uses.

We regulate the safe use, transport, storage and disposal of x-ray units and radioactive material used in medicine, research, industry and mining. We also regulate high power lasers and intense pulse lights (IPLs).

We provide advice on non-ionising radiation sources, including microwaves, powerlines, mobile phones and communication towers.

The Radiation Protection Act 2005 and Radiation Protection Regulations 2006 provide a legislative framework for the safe and effective use of radiation in Tasmania.
